February 2016 Business Meeting
- The Council Business Meeting was called to order by the Deputy Grand Knight Andy Sciacca at 7:30 PM.
- Warden’s Report from Warden Walter Kuehn – All Knights present in possession of current membership card.
- All present knelt for the Lord’s Prayer led by DGK Andy Sciacca.
- Council recited the Pledge of Allegiance led by Warden Walter Kuehn.

- Chaplain’s Report – no report from Fr. Bob due to him being excused from meeting tonight.
- Approval of Minutes of Previous Meeting – Don Williams
- Grand Knight’s Report – DGK Andy Sciacca
- Awards from Mid-year meeting held last month in Fayetteville. Council received 1st place awards in Division II for our Membership and our Council award submissions. We received an additional 3rd, 4th and 5th Place awards for some of our other submissions.
- Lenten Fish Fries. Tom Clifton indicated there will be 3 of these, on 2/12, 2/26 and 3/11. Tom indicated he would be here on Friday at 1:00 PM to help with the fish thawing. We sold 50 pre-sale tickets and estimate we’ll have between 110-120 plates sold. Follow-up from 1st Fish Fry from 2/12:

- 40 Cans for Lent Food Drive. Brother Ken Johnston indicated that his program first started at a council in St. Antonio. Our goal will be 20,000 lbs, or 5 lbs from each of the ~400 St. Matthew parish families. Catholic Social Charities are most anxious to restock their food pantry so they are appreciative of this project. As this is a Supreme Council project, the Supreme Council will actually rebate
usmoney based on the amount of food we collect. Brother Ken Johnson will make announcements about this program at upcoming Masses. He indicated he can secure boxes from Lowes which families can use to bring in their cans. Council made motion, seconded and approved to purchase 50 of these boxes at $.75 each for this purpose. - Upcoming Special Olympic projects. Community Directory Joel Lipsey introduced several upcoming projects our council is contributing to for Special Olympics.
- Earliest one is to assist with their upcoming 5x5 Basketball tournament that will be held at Northern High school on 27FEB16. Our role will be to hand out sandwiches between 10:30 and 1:00 PM.
- Next is providing a Color Guard for the Durham County Special Olympics Spring games at Durham Academy upper school. We have participated in this event many times both as an Color Guard and also doing the food concessions. We won’t need to cook this time. Chick-fil-a will be providing sandwiches.
- Membership retention committee will be forming. Discussion tabled until next meeting.
- Fraternal Activity Report for 2015. Hours were tabulated by DGK Andy Sciacca based on forms returned to him last year by our council’s members. He has submitted totals to Supreme. For 2016, Andy will be making a sign-up sheet available for each event so hours can be totaled for each event as they occur.

- Auditors and Trustee’s Report. Trustee Ray Anderson indicates that semi-annual council audit due on 15FEB16 was completed last month and all forms have been emailed or sent by registered mail to Supreme Council and other officials.

- Church Director - Ken Johnston.
- 5th Sunday Rosary continues in 2016. We conducted our first of the year on 30/31 January.
- New pews and carpet are expected to arrive after Easter.

- Culture of Life (director is needed)
- Right to Life Rally was held in Raleigh weekend of 16JAN and we did have participation (2 Knights attended)

- Brother Tom Clifton is seeking Harris-Teeter dates in April and May
- Membership Director - Paul Hilchey
- Brother Paul is developing a membership recruiting plan for 2016

- FS Mike O’Kane reminds Knights that we can contact parish office regarding having emails distributed to St. Matthew parishioners.
- Brother Don Williams indicates he has made contact with Brother John Toohil regarding our council members attending a Mass one Saturday at 4:00 PM at Brookdale Senior Living facilitycelebrated by Father Bob. After meeting, Brother John has indicated he welcomes this visit and we are coordinating what Saturday we will celebrate this Mass.

Next 4th Degree is upcoming on 27FEB16 in New Bern.There is a 2nd Degree upcoming at St. Francis on 30MAR16.
Our council has been approved to host one of the regional training meetings on 18JUN16 in the Parish Center.

- Thomas Edward Cooper, who is younger brother of Brother Ralph Cooper. Mr. Copper has recently been diagnosed with lung cancer.
