What if I or my loved one wants to be cremated?

Rights of interment for cremated remains are available at half the rate of full plots- $500 for St Matthew parishioners. For non-parishioners, the 1st cremation plot is $1000, and subsequent cremation plots cost $500 . Cremated remains may also be buried in a regular-sized plot. It is possible for the cremated remains of two people (for example: a husband and a wife or a father and a son) to be buried in the same regular-sized plot, using a single marker for the plot.
 

What if I or my loved one wants a 'green' burial?

A 'green' or natural burial involves minimal environmental impact and the use of non-toxic, biodegradeable materials.  We offer an option for a modified 'Green' Burial.  Rather than a vault, the plot may be lined with a burial casing with only sides and a top (no bottom).  This allows for the natural decomposition of the body, either in a simple biodegradeable casket or shroud, while the sides and the top of the burial casing maintain the structural integrity.  Check with your funeral director for information about how to proceed.

What size and type of headstone is permitted?

Only ground-level markers are permitted in St. Matthew Catholic Cemetery.  Markers may be no more than  28" x 18 "for  single  (individual) markers.  Double markers may be 48" x  18"  or  60" x  16 ". Minimum size for markers is 12" x  8 ".   Markers may be stone, granite, marble, or bronze.
 

Does the deceased have to be Catholic?

St. Matthew Catholic Cemetery is intended for the interment of Catholics who are entitled to Christian burial according to the rules and discipline of the Roman Catholic Church. Exceptions must be approved by the Pastor of Saint Matthew Catholic Church. Exceptions are typically granted for a non-Catholic spouse or child to be buried with a Catholic spouse or parent.

What are the Plot relinquishment options?

St. Matthew does not give refunds or repurchase plots, whether partially paid or paid in full.  Plot holders who wish to relinquish their plot rights, have the option of returning the Right of Interment to St. Matthew with a request for an attempt to re-sell the plot.  If re-sale is successful, the Committee shall send the funds to the plot holder up to the amount the plot holder originally paid for the plot.
 
Alternatively, the plot holder may return the Right of Interment to St. Matthew and donate the plot back to the Committee to be used for charitable purposes.  Upon request, a statement recognizing the donation for tax purposes will be provided.
 

What types of floral arrangements or other memorials are permitted at the gravesite?

Natural flowers, or artificial flower arrangements in permanent vases designed for  grave sites  are permitted and should be removed as they deteriorate, to maintain the natural  beauty of the area.  Anything  that may present a safety hazard or obstacle to grounds maintenance (fencing, marble  or rock  chips, wire, toys or ornaments not part of a flower arrangement, glass, flags  and/or poles, photographs, etc) are  prohibited and will be removed. Small US flags may be displayed and should be removed when they have deteriorated.  Burial of pets or memorabilia  is strictly prohibited.
