St. Matthew Catholic Cemetery

St. Matthew Catholic Cemetery is a consecrated resting place established by the Diocese of Raleigh and St. Matthew Parish to meet the needs of the Catholic community in the Triangle area.  

Established in 1997, it is the only Catholic cemetery in Durham County.

Located on parish grounds at 1001 Mason Road, Durham, St. Matthew Cemetery sits on 40 quiet acres of forested, rolling hillside in northern Durham county.  The peaceful setting includes shade trees, flowering plants, a memorial garden, and benches for quiet prayer.  The Cemetery offers both burial and Cremation plots to families. 
  

 All markers are ground-level and Perpetual Care is maintained year round.  An Outdoor Chapel and Meditation Trail are a short distance away. We honor All our Veterans with small Americal flags at grave sites on Memorial Day.   Click on 'Summary of Rules' for more information.

St. Matthew Cemetery is run by a caring & dedicated volunteer Committee.  We will meet with you at your convenience to help in your selection of a plot.  We also work with all funeral homes to prepare plots for burial & headstones.

The primary purpose of the cemetery is for the interment of Catholics and their families.  Any question of the burial of other non-Catholics shall be decided by the Pastor of St. Matthew.  Such decisions shall be considered final and binding on the parties.  

Cost of Plots

* Prices effective January 1, 2023 *

St. Matthew Parishioners: Full plot - $1000
                                                Cremation plot - $500

 Non-parishioners: 1st Full plot - $2000
                                   -Subsequent Full plots - $1000
                                  1st Cremation plot - $1000
                                   -Subsequent cremation plots - $500

Our plot prices are for the Right of Interment AND the Perpetual Care of the plot.
